Dr. Carson Carr Memorial Fund

Brothers,

On Friday, October 3, 2014, our Brother, Dr. Carson Carr, Jr. went home to be with the Lord.

Brother Carr Jr was initiated in 1957 at the Psi Chapter at University of Pennsylvania As Bro. Carr enters Omega chapter, his life and legacy will remain near and dear to our hearts.

Brother Carr Jr. is mostly remembered for his dedication to the youth of the Educational Opportunity program (EOP), whom march onward and upward towards becoming productive professionals and assets to their communities.

Brother Carr’s legacy lives on at the University at Albany where he served as the director of the Educational opportunities program (EOP) Carr arrived at the University at Albany in 1985, the graduation rate of the students from the (EOP) was around 25 percent. He set a goal to double the graduation rate. The EOP students are considered academically non-admissible and come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. During Carr’s tenure, the EOP graduation rate increase significantly better with more then 50 percent graduation rate.

Brother Carson Carr Jr impact on the university went beyond the EOP program.

For his work with the EOP and numerous other programs, Brother Carr Jr. received a special citation from the State Assembly and a President’s Excellence in Professional Service Award from the University at Albany. The University at Albany offers a graduate scholarship in his name as a testament to his accomplishments in supporting the recruitment, retention and graduation of underrepresented students.

Brother Carson Carr Jr. is survived by his wife Joyce Hughes Carr; children Lisa, Lauren, Eric, and grandchildren. In his honor, the Carr Family, and the University at Albany are looking to raise $100,000 for a special naming ceremony in honor of Bro. Carson Carr Jr.

As his Brothers and the keepers of the Light, the Beta Pi Lambda chapter would like to raise at least 10% or $10,000 of the total amount. To accomplish this goal, Beta Pi Lambda asks that each Brother donate $100 towards this effort. We will need at least 100 Brothers to achieve this goal.
